Speedway Eastbourne is the team for me even living over 60 miles away I used to go to most of their meeting, then along came the children!! Ah! how times have changed. Started watching the White City Rebels, at White City London in 1976, managed to get to over 100 meetings in 1978, hardly missed an Eastbourne home or away meeting for many of the '80's seasons, great fun. Apart from rain of in Edinburgh, still plenty of other things to do. Which was not the case of the visit to Workington which was rained off at start time. Spent a few bob in the bar that night. Still not seen a meeting at Workington, but had visited all the other tracks operating at that time. Only managed to get to a few meetings for the last few seasons, but did go to both legs of the Premiership final. As a rugby league follower I am more than used to this format. Whatever your thoughts there should be no doubts that Sky's television coverage has enabled the sport to get back on its feet. All sports need television exposure. You just have to make the best of it. But this does still not explain why the Guardian is the only national newspaper not to cover the sport at all... Check out the pictures, taken many years ago, Emma & Tim aboard bikes at Eastbourne, no lay down engines here I'm afraid. |
